A well made and reasonably priced roller.
A well made and reasonably priced roller. If you are a runner or a cyclist you have probably heard of a foam roller as a good & uncomfortable way of easing out the iliotibial band (ITB) on the outer side of the thigh. Trainers will usually tell you to cut the roller in half for work on the ITB, but a full-length roller works well with Pilates and core stability exercises. Just lying along it stretches and opens the chest, a good antidote to a day spent hunched over a computer. A YouTube video by KineticFitness, dated 5 October 2006 shows how to use a roller for ITB issues. The Pilates Props Workbook by Ellie Herman (available from Amazon UK) uses a roller as well as resistance bands, for Pilates and core stability exercises for different abilities.
